Whoa..! I can already feel the adrenaline rush in my body thinking about the 2010 Commonwealth games. Talking about the games, I should tell you my fellow country men that it is the third time the Common wealth games is going to be hosted in a developing country. The first two developing countries to have hosted the commonwealth games are Jamaica and Malaysia.
But folks this is going to a time also for us to prove to the world what we are capable of. The world is keeping its eye fixed on New Delhi. It is going to be a life time opportunity for us. We have to carry the brand Common wealth games with huge pride. Just a year back Raja Randhir Singh, vice president for the commonwealth games expressed deep concerns over the observed delay but it was soon taken care of and on January 18th 2008, we received approval for the plans submitted by the organizing committee.
I can already feel the excitement soaring. Though there is a considerable amount of time left for the commencement of the games, the Delhites have already started to paint the city red.
Get set people, the event is scheduled to commence between 3 October and 14 October 2010. This is the first major sport event to be held in Delhi. The previous big event hosted by India was the Asian Games in 1951 and 1982. The opening ceremony for the event is scheduled to take place at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Delhi.
Other cities in India have also hosted games in the past. The commonwealth Youth Games were held in Pune between October 12 and 18, 2008. The youth games included sports like boxing, swimming, table tennis, weightlifting and wrestling.
India’s Sports Minister is heading the conducting committee while President of the Indian Olympic Association, Suresh Kalmadi is heading the organizing committee. The games shall be commencing from 3rd to 14th October 2010.
Though there are speculations, the government is assuring a grand event. It is advisable to start booking your tickets and making hotel reservations now because seats are now fast being occupied.
