World Cup 2010: Now not far away

If you are a fan like me then you too are definitely looking forward to the football world cup 2010. The world cup 2010 is scheduled to take place in Africa between 11 June and 11 July. By the way it is the first time, the world cup will be held in Africa.

If the reports are anything to go by then trust me on this, the African Government is leaving no stone unturned to ensure to make this event a memorable one. It is believed that there are at least five stadiums under construction. These stadiums are being built for the especially tournament. Out of the five, three will serve as match venues while the other two will would be used for practice. Apart from these, the government is also upgrading five existing stadiums. The total cost of construction and upgrading has reached to 8.4bn.

Not only on the stadiums the African Government is also placing a special emphasis on the security factor. Strongly adhering to the requirements of the sports committee, the African Government is also busy improving the infrastructure facilities within its various cities. The government has implemented many projects that include the Gautrain and new Bus Rapid Transit system (BRT) titled Rea Vaya. In an exclusive interview of Danny Jordan, the president of the World cup 2010, Danny Jordan said that he expects the stadiums to be upgraded by the end of October 2009.

As with every big event, this too is surrounded by controversies. It has been reported that about 70,000 workers walked off their jobs on 8 July 2009. The government claims that it pays R2500 to its workers but there are alleged reports that the workers are grossly underpaid. However, the government has assured that the stadiums will be ready on time.
